DAILY MARKET TREND
GRAINS AND PULSES
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Wheat dara quality gained further ground on Saturday at Rs.770/775, up by Rs.5 per quintal. Atta, maida and suji also closed higher by Rs.5/10 at Rs. 755/760, Rs. 720/725 and Rs. 725/730 per bag respectively. Wheat prices rose on account of limited offerings by stockists and flour millers good demand amid lower wheat production estimates. In pulses, prices were barely unchanged at low levels as stock selling persisted. Gram, however, moved up to Rs. 1750/1765, up by Rs. 10 per quintal on stock buying.
OIL AND OILSEEDS
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Soya, cottonseed and mustard oils recovered on the local oil and oilseeds market on Saturday slightly by Rs.10 per quintal on scattered demand. Groundnut oil, however, eased back to Rs. 5000, down by Rs.50 per quintal. In oilseeds, mustardseed medium quality lost Rs.10/15 per quintal due to lack of demand.
GUR AND SUGAR
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Mill delivery and spot sugar prices were unchanged in thin trade on Saturday. On the back of some demand, around 3 trucks of sugar was sold locally. In Maharashtra, duty paid sugar was hiked by Rs.10 per quintal.
SPICES AND DRY FRUITS
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Trading in local spices and dry fruits market was lack-lustre. The demand was smaller against strong inflows. Prices hovered around previous level for want of any boosting factor.
BULLION
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Gold and silver both plunged on the local bullion market on Saturday due to similar trends overseas and stock selling pressure. Gold one kg. bar fell to Rs.6120, a heavy loss of Rs. 115 per 10 gram from yesterday as London gold lost shine at $427.40 from $435 per ounce. In silver, spot prices fell sharply by Rs.155 at Rs.10400 from Rs.10555 per kg. Silver delivery was down by Rs.125 to Rs.10450 per kg. London silver prices softened at 687 from 704 cents per ounce.

DELHI COMMODITY MARKET WEEKLY REVIEW
GRAINS & PULSES
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Monsoon rains became a huge factor in deciding the trend in the week to July 2 on the wholesale grains and pulses market. The rains was responsible for supply interruption and also change in sentiment to a down one as pulses crops were expected to benefit. Traders said, pulses stockists were selling inventories by reducing prices to book profit amid fears of further fall in the prices. Wheat prices, however, rose yet again mainly due to its lower production and limited stock selling.
Urad Rangooni ended the week with a loss of Rs.30 per quintal as the stock of 2003 was offered at Rs. 1840 and of 2004 at Rs.1870 per quintal. In Mumbai too arhar finished easier at Rs.1800 from Rs.1850. Moong inflow from U.P. and Bihar was 30-32 trucks during the first four days of the week but declined in the later days to only 17-18 trucks, which held the prices steady from falling further. Still average moong of Bihar finished with huge loss of Rs.100/110 at Rs.2025/2700 per quinal. Moong of Merata (Rajasthan) also plunged to close at Rs.2700 from Rs.2800 per quintal. Arhar moved up at the fag-end of the week on the back of advices from Myanmar and closed with gain of Rs.10/20 as the Lemon quality settled at Rs. 2125 per quintal. On the lack of demand, kabligram lost shine. Rangooni kabligram went down to Rs.2525 from Rs.2575. Indian Mexician quality kabligram was off Rs.250 per quintal. Rajmash chitra too settled easier due to lack of buying interest and the Pune quality fell to Rs. 1900/2500 while Madras quality to Rs.2750 a loss of Rs. 50/100 per quintal.
In grains, wheat dara quality rose to further on the back of reports of a low wheat production. Wheat dara settled higher. Atta, maida and suji went up by Rs. 5/10 at Rs. 755/760, Rs. 820/825 and Rs. 825/830 per bag respectively. Maize and bajra were offered mostly around their previous prices in thin trade.
OIL & OILSEEDS
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Groundnut and cottonseed oils prices jumped up in the week ended July 2 on the local wholesale oils and oilseeds market and finished the week with huge gains as stockists and millers continued to buy on reports of floods in Gujarat blocking the flow of supplies. However, soya, mustard and coconut oils moved lower in the absence of buyers and weak overseas advices.
As supplies decreased from Gujarat due to floods and stock offerings were paltry against oil millers soaring enquiries, groundnut oil shot up to close at Rs.5000, gaining Rs.100 per quintal over previous week's close of Rs.4900 per quintal. Cottonseed oil similarly, finished higher by Rs.50/60 at Rs.3730 per quintal.
On the other side, because of Malaysia showing RBD palmolein down by $5 at $435 per tonne and Chicago soya oil fell by 150/160 points, soya oil refined tumbled down and closed at Rs.3860, a fall of Rs.40 per quintal. Soya degummed oil also was off Rs.40 at Rs.3600. Coconut oil, on easy advices from Tiptur and Kolkata, fell by Rs.30 at Rs.850/960 per tin as per quality.
GUR & SUGAR
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Millers hiked sugar gate prices in the week to July 2 in anticipation of a festive buying on account of Sharwani festival buying. Moroever, the govt had released a lower sugar quota for the July to September quater which compared to the same duration of last year.
Mill delivery sugar prices were increased at the fag-end of the week by Rs.5/10 at Rs.1660/1710 per quintal. The prices may go up further in view of festivals ahead.
Gur inflow had decreased due to rains to 600/700 bags from 1000/1200 bags. Hence, gur prices shot up by Rs.20/25 to Rs. 1675/1725 per quintal during the week on increased demand.
SPICES & DRY-FRUITS
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)The local spices and dry fruits market showed most of the commodities on a downrun due to inadequate buying support during the week ended July 2. Cardamom brown remained pressured by stock selling and profit-taking and closed lower the week by Rs.10/14 per kg. as Jhundiwala quality settled at Rs.106/107 and Kainchicut at Rs.120/145 per kg. Cardamom small ahead of the new crop, eased back and closed Rs.5/10 per kg. lower. In saffron, because of huge imports from Iran and meagre offtake, the Iranian suffron plunged and closed with heavy loss of Rs.1000/2000 at Rs.16000/17000 per kg. Kashmiri saffron too fell heavily by Rs.1000/2000 at Rs. 26000/34000 per kg. Pomegranteseed and Maknana lacked in demand and closed Rs.5/10 per kg. easier. Nutmeg and betelnut also were marekd lower due to falling enquiries. Stock selling due to rains caused a sharp fall in watermelon kernel prices at Rs. 4700/4900 from Rs. 4800/5100 per quintal. Clove, on low imports, went up gaining Rs.5/10 at Rs.200/240 per kg. On steady advices from Warangal, Guwahati, Kolkata and Ranchi etc. tamarind moved up to close higher by Rs.25/50 per quintal. Kuttu jumped up to Rs.2600/3000 from Rs.2500/2600 per quintal in anticipation of festival buing. Zeera common quality registered a loss of Rs. 100/200 at Rs. 7300/9500 per quintal. In Unjha, zeera was off Rs.25/35 at Rs.1425/1450 per 20 kgs. due to increased inflow.
In dry fruits, the demand from upcountry regions was smaller and local buying too was insufficient. Hence, prices tumbled down as supplies increased. Apricot and fig both ended with losses of Rs.500/1000 at Rs. 3000/6000 and Rs.3500/7000 per 40 kgs. Almond prices were down by a sharp Rs.100/200 at Rs. 3850/10200 per 40 kgs. and its kernel eased by Rs. 4 at Rs. 455/456 per kg. For want of halwais buying, coconut powder continued to fall and finished the week with heavy loss of Rs.100/300 at Rs. 900/1700 per 25 kg. Cashew kernel also was off Rs. 2/5 per kg. Dry dates lost ground by Rs.100 per quintal. Pistachio, after an initial fall, showed a recovery of Rs.25/35 at Rs. 480/580 per kg. Copra ruled between Rs. 8100/8500 per quintal.
BULLION
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)The domestic bullion market witnessed continued selling pressure from stockists and importers of both the precious metals, gold and silver amid downtrend reports from London in the week ended July 2. Gold and silver both ended the week with heavy price falls as compared to the previous week's closings level. Traders told that as American dollar improved as compared to other currencies. London gold plunged from $444 to $427.40 per ounce during the week as a silver fell to 687 from 728 cents per ounce. This triggered stockists selling. The bullion market received nearly 2000 kgs. silver and 1500 kgs. gold during the week. There was no wedding season around hence jewellers demand was insufficient to land a buying support.
Gold prices finished with loss of Rs.170 per 10 gram as the one kg. bar settled on Saturday at Rs. 6120 per 10 gram falling from previous week's close of Rs. 6290 per 10 gram. Pure gold also was down by Rs.170 at Rs. 6150 against Rs. 6320 per 10 gram.
In silver, spot prices suffered a loss of Rs. 500 per kg. as it settled on Saturday at Rs.10400 against Rs.10900 per kg. quoted at close of previous week. Silver coins due to a low demand, fell to Rs.14400 from Rs.14600, losing Rs.200 per 100 pieces.
CHEMICALS
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS) The domestic chemical market continued to be mixed in the week to July 2 with select chemicals showing a bullish trend amid shortage of ready stocks and growing demand. Amongst such chemicals, menthol products moved higher sharply. This was owing to meagre supplies from Uttar Pradesh due to monsoon rains. The producing regions of the staes too witnessed steep rise in the prices as demand firmed. At the close of the week in the local market, mentha oil had gained Rs.55 at Rs. 485 per kg. from previous week's close of Rs. 430 per kg. Following suit, menthol flake and menthol bold gained heavily by Rs. 50/55 at Rs. 580 and Rs. 625 per kg. Traders feel that the prices may rise further due to bullish sentiment. DMO, on paltry stocks, shot up from Rs. 230 to Rs. 275 per kg. Thymol was offered steady at Rs. 510 per kg. In camphor section, the powder and slab finished higher by Rs.20/22 at Rs.150/152 and Rs.175/177 per kg. on reduced supplies from a leading distributer. Camphor prices thus have gone up in last one month by a sharp Rs. 42/55 per kg. Elsewhere, mercury came under the imports pressure and ended Rs.500 lower at Rs. 45500 per 34.5 kgs. flask. Naphthalene balls also remained pressured by stock selling and closed at Rs. 2400 against Rs.2500 per 50 kgs. Similarly, caustic soda flakes, extending the fall, lost Rs.50 at Rs.1150 per bag., but at the fag-end of the week as reports of floods in Gujarat, resulting in closure of factories, came in the chemical bounced back to Rs.1250, revealing a gain of Rs. 100 per bag over closings of previous week. Ammonia bicarb, however, edged down at Rs.275 from Rs.280 per 25 kgs. due to lower demand. Citric acid and boric acid technical dropped Rs.100 at Rs.2600 and Rs. 2700/3100 per 50 kgs. due to lower upcountry buying interest.
Non-ferrous metal
New Delhi, July 2 (NNS)Cadmium and nickel prices moved higher in the week ended July 2 on increased demand from industrial users and stockists amid reports of the prices of the metals rising on the LME. The local non-ferrous metal market, however, witnessed aluminium, tin ingot and antimony prices falling due to withdrawal of buying by stockists and users as supplies increased.
As on the London Metal Exchange, booking rates of cadmium shot up another by $22/25 per tonne, the metal was increasingly being bought by stockists and industrial users, which helped end the downtrend of previous week in the metal. Cadmium settled Rs.10 per kg. higher as the Maxcian rod traded at Rs.200 and other rods at Rs.190/195 per kg. Its plate also was up Rs.10 at Rs.195 per kg. On the LME, nickel plate soared gaining Rs.110/115 per tonne. Hence, on stock buying, nickel plate went up by Rs.5/6 per kg. with Russian (4x4) settling at Rs. 794 and (9x9) at Rs. 803 per kg. Nickel plate of Inco was offered at Rs. 875 per kg. Due to imports, scraps of aluminium were down by 50/75 paise per kg. Tin ingot also lacked in buying support to fall by Rs.2 at Rs. 430 per kg. Brass scraps eased back by Rs.1.50/2 per kg. Brass accessories was a tad softened at Rs.118, down by Rs. 2 per kg. Antimony edged down by Re. one per kg. Copper products prices fluctuated by 50/75 paise per kg. in thin trade but closed the week lower by Rs.1.50/2 per kg. as wire scrap settled at Rs. 173.50 and pat at Rs.169 per kg. due to falling copper prices on the LME.
