GRAINS
& PULSES
New Delhi, July 9 (NNS)Heavy rains across the northern
regions became the main factor in the week ended
Saturday on the wholesale grains and pulses market.
The rains caused a sharp reduction of supplies to
the market from producing centres. Therefore, despite
slowing down of the trading activities the wholesale
prices continued with the rising trend and closed
the week with high gains.
Supply of gram from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan
was in meagre quantities. With stockists cornering
all the new arrivals, gram prices jumped up to close
at Rs.1900/1910, showng a huge gain of Rs.145/150
per quintal over previous week's close. Traders
said there was a negligible supply of gram in all
the mandis including Sagar & Gwalior. Traders
said the market was now eyeing gram prices to achieve
Rs.2000 level. Following suit, gram dal as per quality
shot up by Rs.125/175 as it closed at Rs.2100/2300
per quintal. Urad Rangooni rose by Rs.90 per quintal
with stock of 2004 traded at Rs.1960 per quintal.
Arhar Lemon quality shot up by Rs.80 at Rs. 2170
per quintal. Both these pulses rose on the back
of similar trends in Mumbai. Masoor supply had fallen
by 40 percent to the market from Sagar and Beenaganj.
Therefore, bold quality black masoor went up from
Rs.2025 to Rs.2075 as smaller masoor shot upto Rs.2100
from Rs. 2025 per quintal. Malka and its dal soared
both by Rs. 75 at Rs.2850 and Rs.2650 per quintal.
Rajmash chitra closed Rs.100 per quintal higher
on a good offtake amid reduced inflow. Peas white
and green also were higher by Rs.25/50 per quintal.
In grains, initially, wheat dara prices were up
by Rs.10 per quintal but could not sustain the gains
as it eased back by Rs.4/5 per quintal on a profit-taking
by stockists. However, on the back of festive demand,
atta, maida and suji closed higher by a sharp Rs.20/30
at Rs. 775/780, Rs. 840/845 and Rs. 855/860 per
bag respectively. Basmati and non-basmati rice lacked
in adequate demand and prices eased a tad. Bajra
softened by Rs.5/7 per quintal due to declined enquiries.
