Sorting Your DAL
Means MORE PROFIT....
Color
Sorting of various grains like pulses, seeds, rice, coffee etc. have become need
of the hour in Indian commodity industry. Among all these grains, Rice has been
the main application for color sorters in India. However, recently, there has
been a major thrust in sorting of dal and lentils in Indian Industry. Sorted
pulses and dals like Tuhar, Gram, Masoor have gained popularity and have
provided good value addition in the finished product. Depending upon the quality
of Sorting a value addition up to Rs. 4.00 per kg has been achieved. It is very
much important to have the right technology of Color Sorter so as to get the
required output quality as well performance.
The
critical check points while selecting a color sorter are :-
1.
Sensing technology - this
should be carefully examined as this will decide the capability of sorting
various types of defects. A most modern color Sorter uses advanced CCD sensors
which are more powerful than ordinary cameras to detect the smaller defects on
the grain.
2.
Ejector technology - An
ejector blows air to remove the defects from the grains. This should be as much
as possible maintenance free. Keeping Indian conditions in mind, this should
not be very sensitive to air quality with respect to excessive dust and
oil traces.
3.
Control Panel - Finally
the computer controlled panels provide greater flexibility for the operator and
accuracy of sort.
The
throughput capacity of a color sorter largely depends upon the input
contamination of the material. It is advisable to install a larger capacity
machine so as the get a smooth product flow and good sorting efficiency. Another
main point of comparison is Reject ratios.
Though
there are many manufacturers of color sorter in the world, only few have gained
popularity in India due to their experience and know how in the field.
