  New Delhi, July 9 (NNS)The domestic spices and dry fruits market witnessed smaller demand from upcountry regions due to heavy rains and since stockists continued the selling of inventories to attract buyers, prices tumbled down and finished the week to Saturday with heavy losses. Traders said that fresh deals for neighbouring states were not being done much due to adverse weather conditions.
Unabated rains for three days in the week impacted, offtake and activities were at a standstill. Hence, turmeric, zeera and water melon kernel ended with losses of Rs.100/300 at Rs.2600/4100, Rs. 7200/8200 and Rs. 4500/4600 per quintal respectively as compared to closings rates of previous week. For want of adequate consumer demand, cardamom brown, nutmeg, mace and clove finished weaker by Rs. 5/15 per kg. Black pepper and poppyseed of Turkey slipped lower by Rs. 2 per kg. On the other side, Kuttu moved higher on the back of meagre stocks and limited inflows from Chattisgarh and Assam and closed with gain of Rs.100 at Rs. 2700/3100 per quintal. Demand was expected to firm up on account of Sharwani festival. Dry ginger jumped up on the back of declined inflows to the market here and also to Cochin and Sagar advices and prices flared by Rs.500/700 at Rs. 14700/17500 per quintal. In producing centres, dry ginger skyrocketed to high level and gained Rs. 800/100 per quintal on supply concerns.
In dry fruits, buyers from upcountry regions were absent mainly due to heavy rains. Hence, almond girdi closed sharply lower at Rs. 3650 against Rs. 3850, a fall of Rs.200 per 40 kgs. Almond kernel California ended higher by Rs.4 at Rs. 459/460 per kg. on festive demand. Dry dates red also lost Rs.200 at Rs.2200/4000 per quintal due to low demand and expected imports from Pakistan. Pistachio edged down by Rs.10/35 at Rs. 465/570 per kg. for want of buying and support from halwais and confectioners. Copra Tiptur was off by Rs.100 at Rs. 8100/8400 per quintal. Walnut kernel, however, moved higher at Rs.250/350, up by Rs.30/50 per kg. on offtake by exporters. Walnut, therefore, was steady at Rs.70/115 per kg.
